At Hollow Bastion, Sora learns of Kairi's heart resting in his own, and uses the Keyblade belonging to Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, to release his own heart and free Kairi's. Kairi's body is found in Neverland by Riku and is brought to Hollow Bastion.
While her heart finds refuge in Sora's heart, her body is put into a catatonic state. In the original Kingdom Hearts, Kairi's heart is lost during a storm that brings the Heartless to Destiny Island. She eventually became very close friends with both Sora and Riku. She was born on Radiant Garden and was sent to Destiny Islands after Radiant Garden was swallowed by the darkness. At the end of Birth by Sleep, Kairi is seen picking flowers and her necklace is shown glowing. Aqua tells her that one day, the light will guide her to someone who will keep her safe. Kairi gives Aqua the flowers she gathered before the enemies attacked and Aqua puts a charm on Kairi's necklace. Scared, the young Kairi touches Aqua's Keyblade which, unknowingly, allows her to inherit Aqua's Keyblade later on. After being chased by enemies, she encounters Aqua. Kairi lives in Radiant Garden at the beginning of Birth by Sleep with her grandmother. She truly loves her friends Sora and Riku, and will do anything for them. She is one of the most caring and kind people in the series.
